PRACTICAL JOB SEARCH GUIDES
How to write your first CV
A practical way to organise your skills, experience and achievements when writing a first CV.
Start with information you can support
Write down your work, study, volunteering, projects and responsibilities. For each example, note what you did, the skills you used and a result you can explain. A first CV can draw on experience outside paid employment.
Make it easy to scan
Start with your name and a contact method you are comfortable sharing. Add a short introduction, relevant skills, experience and education. Use clear headings and short descriptions. Include dates and the names of employers or organisations where appropriate.
Describe what you actually did
Replace broad claims with specific examples. Instead of “good with customers”, describe helping customers choose products, handling enquiries or resolving a problem. Do not invent qualifications, employers or achievements.
Adapt it to the role
Read the vacancy and choose examples that relate to its duties. Use straightforward language and check spelling, dates and contact details. Save a copy you can open and review before sending.
Use the starter builder
Jobvello’s starter tool organises your own words into editable text. It does not verify qualifications or use AI to assess you. Review the output, add missing details and decide what to share.
