PRACTICAL JOB SEARCH GUIDES
How to write a clear job advert
Help applicants understand a role with clear duties, pay, working hours and application details.
Choose an accurate title
Use a recognisable job title rather than a slogan. Explain the core work and the experience genuinely needed to carry it out. Separate required skills from things a new colleague can learn.
Include the practical details
State the location, workplace arrangements, hours, contract type and pay range. Explain the pay period and, for part-time roles, whether an annual figure is a full-time equivalent.
Describe the work clearly
Write a short introduction to your organisation, followed by the main duties and relevant training. Use plain language, short paragraphs and details that help a person decide whether the work suits them.
Explain the application process
Provide a working application destination, describe what applicants should submit and give a closing date. Keep the listing current and remove it when the role is filled or no longer available.
Prepare before publishing
Check the details with the person responsible for hiring. Review applications through an appropriate process. Contact the administrator about employer enquiries. Public self-service posting is not currently offered.
